Why Lithium Battery Fires Require Specialized Protection?

Lithium batteries ignite differently than ordinary fires. When damaged or exposed to high temperatures, they undergo thermal runaway, a chain reaction causing rapid temperature spikes, release toxic flammable gas and become explosive.
